407 BASIC PITCHING DELIVERY
(3/4 Delivery)

Hiding The Ball:

1. Conceal the ball in your glove, so the third base coachcannot see what type of grip is being used and the batter cannot focus on his target "the ball."

Getting Started:

2. Standing with both feet on the rubber. (I prefer right-handed pitchers to place their feet on the right side of the rubber, this gives the ball more angle on its projectory to home plate.) With your left foot, step back a few inches behind the rubber. This affords you the opportunity to gain your balance while you are in the straight up position, before you actually start to take your first step.Picture #1 Shows 1,2,3
3. Body balanced, straight up and down position.

Starting the delivery

4. Using a rocking type motion, position your right foot directly in front of the rubber and toes facing towards third base.
5. Right foot remains on the ground, with heel up and toe touching the ground (in a slightly shallow hole.)
6. Right foot moves, after left shoulder starts into the turn.
7. Left shoulder closed pointing towards the catcher.
8. Right leg slightly bent, to hold body weight, when turn completed.

9. Left knee raised (at least to waist) with foot tucked under.
10. Left shoulder kept closed.
11. Hands looped, close to body.
12.Back straight in a balanced upright position.

Forward Motion:

13. Hands break, left knee and right arm start down together.
14. Back knee collapses.
15. Right arm straight back.
16. Left shoulder kept closed.
17.The back of hand on throwing, facing towards catcher.

Power Position (Pop - quick turn)

18. Starts as soon as the elbow on the right arm has fully extended.
19. Back leg bends to allow for "push and drive." Note: do not push off the rubber.
20. Left shoulder kept closed.
21. Both heels facing directly behind pitcher, during drive to plate.
22. Drive through delivery. (do not drag your arm)
23. Land on the balls of the left foot first.
24. Release point for the ball is right after the left foot has landed.
25. Belt buckle facing directly towards the catcher.

Follow Through

26. Right foot comes up off the ground.
27. Right arm crosses over body, to help stop deceleration.
